About Us

CASTAWAYS on MORETON and MORETON ISLAND TOURIST SERVICES. are small family run businesses located in the village of Bulwer on the north western side of Moreton Island where we have resided for over 50 years.

Our tour business is permitted with a Commercial Operator Permit held with Qld. Parks and Wildlife (NPWS) and the Quandamooka Aboriginal Corporation (QYAC)

We hold full Qld. Transport accreditation and current licenses and insurances on our tour vehicle to carry paid passengers.

Our drivers/guides have extensive experience in driving off road on this sand island's beaches and tracks and have expert knowledge of Moreton Island's landscape, environments and cultural heritage.

We also operate PRIVATE 4WD TOURS from a day trip on the MiCat or Tangalooma Ferries or from accommodation at Tangalooma, CASTAWAYS, airbnb's in the townships or from campsites or anywhere on Moreton Island

PRIVATE NORTHERN 4WD SAFARI / WHALE WATCHING TOUR

This tour takes in the beautiful scenic attractions of the northern part of Moreton Island

Take a dip in the tea tree oil infused freshwater of the BLUE LAGOON

Enjoy the magnificent views from CAPE MORETON LIGHTHOUSE

View the HUMPBACK WHALES as they make their migratory breeding journey past the Island (June - October)

PRIVATE SOUTHERN 4WD SAFARI

Travel down endless stretches of white sandy beaches along the Surfside of Moreton Island

Explore the remnants of the old WW11 embattlements of the ROUS BATTERY

The southern beaches with their resident marine birds and flocks of migratory wading birds lining the shoreline overlooking the South Passage to North Stradbroke Island.

Kooringal Township and a refreshment stop at the GUTTER BAR for some fresh seafood and a drink - (purchase your own)

The western beach up through the mangrove swamps past the OYSTER FARM ( fresh oysters and seafood available in season on order beforehand).

An energetic climb up the BIG SANDHILLS and for the more energetic a sand toboggan down.

N.B: Access to the south end of Moreton can sometimes be restricted by high tides and areas of erosion

PRIVATE SAND ADVENTURE 4WD TOUR

Travel on rough sand tracks through native coastal forest to Moreton Island's own DESERT.

Sand toboggan at breakneck speeds down the slopes of this gigantic sand dune. Boards provided.

Stop at the WRECKS to wash off the sand and for those who wish to snorkel out to the Wrecks, and have their own equipment, can do so at their own risk

GUESTS CAN ARRANGE a GUIDED SNORKELLING TOUR WITH EQUIPMENT, or HIRE EQUIPMENT only, with SUNSET SAFARIS who operate at the Wrecks daily.

THIS ACTIVITY CAN BE DONE SEPARATELY BY ARRANGEMENT WITH SUNSET SAFARIS AND WITH US PROVIDING THE RETURN 4WD TRANSFERS TO THE WRECKS VENUE .- COSTS ON APPLICATION.

PRIVATE 4WD TOURS from CRUSE SHIPS

We offer our PRIVATE NORTHERN EXPLORER 4WD TOUR to visitors on a day visit to Tangalooma Resort from CRUISE SHIPS.

We arrange a pick-up location outside of the resort and take guests in our comfortable air conditioned, 7 passenger, 4WD across the Island past the WRECKS to the SURFSIDE, BLUE LAGOON, CAPE MORETON LIGHTHOUSE, NORTH POINT, CHAMPAGNE POOLS, HONEYMOON BAY and back across the top end to BULWER Village with a refreshment stop at CASTAWAYS Licensed CAFE and STORE (Purchase your own) then back past the village of COWAN COWAN (part of Brisbane's WW11 defence history ( now private holiday homes) to the resort, well in time for exploration of the resort facilities and your boat shuttle back to your cruise ship.

This is the only tour we offer cruise ship visitors due to time restrictions of the ship's visit to the Island.

We are private Commercial Operators in the Moreton island National Park

We are not affiliated with Tangalooma Resort or any Cruise Lines.

We operate under a current Qld. National Parks and Wildlife Commercial Operators Permit to provide tour services in the Moreton Island National Park.

Our vehicles and drivers hold current licenses and accreditations as issued by Qld Transport to operate our transport services

4WD TRANSFER SERVICE

Moreton Island's own 4WD TAXI SERVICE

Transfers from the Micat or Tangalooma Ferries to accommodation at Tangalooma, CASTAWAYS at Bulwer or airbnb's and private holiday houses in the villages of Cowan, Bulwer and Kooringal.

Our transfer vehicle is a modern 4WD Wagon and is licensed to carry 7 passengers + driver/guide.

Allow space for the amount of luggage as passengers must be seat belted, usually 4 - 5 pax allows enough luggage space.

We are based at Bulwer so our fares must include time taken to travel to the pickup location and return to base.
